Shutdown wont power off

By 1 Sane Nerd@Work ·
I hv a strange phenomenon. 2 computers, when they were loaded with Win98SE, will shutdown and power off (ATX Power), successfully, eachtime I click shutdown. But when I formatted it and install Win2K Pro, everytime I shutdown, there will be a screen "It is now safe to off this computer". Ya! it wont power off. What is going on? I have reinstalled Win2K for more than 6 times already - same result. The system is P3 / 256 SDRAM.

I would suggest looking at the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 315409 "HOW TO: Troubleshoot Shutdown Problems in Windows 2000" at the following url
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315409&Product=win2000

Good Luck

goto control panel\power options\advance tabs, put a check mark for "advance power management"

Hold the power switch in for 4-7 seconds and see if the "soft touch power off delay" is set. It is a simple CMOS setting you could change to "instant off" if you like, also as said above set advanced power management too for auto off.
