Simple Folder Lock

By Ken G. ·
I'm looking for a freeware app that will let me password lock a folder or folders. I use Windows XP Pro but this goes beyond EFS.

What I basically need is a password request dialog when a user clicks on a given folder. I've seen this before used with 9x systems so I know it's out there. Could any of you gentlemen point me to a good applet for this? Thanks.

Hello Ken...

Just to be sure you're aware of it...

This wouldn't provide a pop-up password dialog. But, couldn't you provide protection using file/folder permissions on an NTFS volume? By granting permissions on a user ID basis, permission would essentially be granted or denied at login time.

Thanks Steve. Guess if I want this I'll have to write it myself.

Hey Steve,

I have messed around with the idea and you're right; it does work. But what I'm looking for is still the same. The reasoning here is that I place folders inside my users My Document folders with configuration data, notes and other stuff; stuff I don't want them messing with. It's quirky but it works for me :)
