SIP phone and Vonage

By BorgInva ·
I am going to be setting up a home/office bit when I move in a few weeks. I have 3 home PCs on a 4 port router. For work I will be hooking up a 4th PC, a SIP phone (one of hose VoIP), and ordering a Vonage device for a line so I can have a dedicated modem line. One of my home PCs is my dedicated web and file server.
Am I looking at buying an 8 port router or are there other options?
Your ideas are appreciated.
If there is any other info you need, please let me know and I will post it in COMMENTS.
All PCs are XP SP2.

Hi,
You could just buy a LAN switch, rather than a router. Use your existing router on your line, then the switch behind it to all your computers.

I bought a 5 port hub. Stuck the puppy in my router and all is a go. $20. Still, what you suggested would have worked too, but I took a different route.

It would depend on how old your router is. Check out Linksys for current options.

The RT41P2-AT is a router with the Vonage hardware built in.

You can use your existing router and daisy chain a switch out of one of the ports.

Good Luck

Lee

The voip box will just plug in to one of the ports.
