size of hard drive reduced

By rosscoandsandi ·
Hi there, i recently installed a brand new WD 250GB SATA2 HDD. i was buiding up a desktop PC. I partitioned it with 25GB for WinXP pro. now the drive only shows 25GB as the size of the drive. how can i access the other 225GB. explorer doesnt see anything more than 25GB. setup: MSI G31M mobo with 4GB DDR2 800mhz RAM, E6400 core 2 duo, geforce 8400, 80GB SATA drive, dvd/cd combo drive.

See how you go with this

Click Start and right click on My Computer, select manage, and then click Disk Management. In this window you should see all of your connected physical drives. In the right hand pane you will see (C:) to the right of that you will have a blank space. Right click in the blank space and you will get some options. Create an Extended Partition and then you can create your Logical Drives in there.

old hard drives

FYI an old 80gb HDD might have been the culprit in a few BSOD's. i plugged it in and suddenly the pc started to crash on me again. unplugged it and all is fine. goes in the bin me thinks. they are so cheap now. why bother with unreliable tech.

Check to see

if you have your Primary Drive on Sata1 and the 80GB Drive on Sata2. Check to see if it is detected in the BIOS. If its not detected in the BIOS it has gone to Hardrive Heaven.

Open whatever version of Windows you are running

Enter the Drive Management Console and right click on the Unused listing of the HDD there. You can then chose to Partition it as you feel necessary.
