Skyshots to provide internet service

By house ·
A fellow peer here at TR has mentioned something about "Skyshots" within one of our conversations. Basically, this is the situation...

In the city where I live, we offer DSL connections. We also serve Ontario and Quebec by reselling the service of a major telecom company. There are some large cities in the area north of here that do not offer DSL as they are not controlled by the same entity.

We are interested in learning more about how satellite communications can be utilized in order to provide our service in the dead zones to the north.

Perhaps I didn't get the full meaning of these "skyshots". If I am wrong in interpreting the technology, could you please correct me and provide me with web references regarding the topic.

From what I gather, this technology is used to provide DSL service to Vancouver Island from the western coast of Canada. Please advise.

Thanks,
house :)
