SLOOOOW to connect to Internet Explorer

By lmayeda ·
We have a Win2000 PC that recently started to take forever to load Internet Explorer. It is Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1. The hard drive has plenty of defragged free space, there is nothing else currently running (the Task Manager processes shows only the System Idle Process and IE active). The PC has 256MB ram. Another PC on the same LAN loads IE in 4 seconds. Once IE is loaded, she seems to have no problem browsing. Other applications load in a normal amount of time. Why does it take so long for IE to load?

I would suggest reinstalling Internet Explorer. It is possible there is a corrupt DLL or system file.

More than likely there is spyware on the system.. instead of going through a long tedious re-install, goto www.lavasoft.com , downloads, and get adaware 6.0 for free.. update and scan the computer with it. You'll probably be suprised at all of the stuff it finds.

After it is complete, remove all the objects it finds, then reboot.

Good Luck

You hit it right on the nose! I downloaded and ran Adaware on the problem PC and it found 40 (!!!) spyware programs which I then deleted. Access time to IE improved from 50 seconds to 4 seconds. Thank you so much!

Other than the last POST recommending ADAWARE (excllent idea)try clearing out the address bar. Sometimes, references to Hard Drives will apprear and slow things right down.
When I clean up my address bar it seems to speed up IE tremendously.
You can do a regedit or download an app for cleaning it.
I'd recommend IOLO's System Mechanic, it's great for Win2K.

Your answer is interesting but I do not understand what you are referring to by "clearing out the address bar". Thanks anyway
