Slow access through DOS

By jtoscano ·
I have just installed a new Dell Dimension 4100/1.3 ghz PC and install Client 3.3. The PC logs into a Netware 5 server (DEll Powerdge 1300/500 mhz)that houses a DOS program. Access to this program from this new PC is very slow yet access from the older, slower PC's that operate on the network is operating fast. Please advise, for I am at a loss.

Have you checked the LAN settings of your new workstation: 10/100 Mbps, full/half duplex? Incorrect settings often cause strange slowdowns like this.

Check to see which protocol is the preferred protocol. On DOS programs, they usually want to see IPX, so set IPX as the preferred protocol. Also, try manually setting the frame types in the client.

Question - what OS are the workstations running??
What Novell Client are the old workstations on??

I assume from your comment that your Windows programs are running as fast or faster than on the older stations??
