Slow Boot Up-Windows XP

By nlemonde ·
Is there a boot up log that records each application or service loaded on boot up and how long it took to load each one? If so, how do I access that log? If no such log exists, do you know of a utility that would give me the same info?

Add the "/bootlog" switch to your default operating system loading string in the boot.ini file (mine would look like this; multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"/fastdetect/bootlog). You can also click Start--Run--type "msconfig" (without quotes)--put a check mark by "bootlog"--Apply--OK. This will create the log at startup.

The majority of slow start-ups are corrected by; unchecking all but your AV, Spyware and firewall on the msconfig Startup tab; defrag pc once every 2-4 weeks; and make sure spyware, viruses and adware are elimiated from the machine weekly.

slow boot test provides optimization to O/S

by aneale In reply to Slow Boot Up-Windows XP

Go to Microsoft to search for Bootvis.exe and download it to your desktop.
Can only be used on xp O/S. The test provides a list of all devices and run times, identifies problem areas and can also optimize your system.

Hope this helps. a
