Slow bootup and cleaning w2k

By zlitocook ·
My wife works for a small home office with lots of problems. I fix them as they come up but now her system a white box with two 100gig, 512 mem, a rage 3d vid, comer. DSL line, w/win 2000 pro. installed. The problem is that with reboot it takes from any where from 30 sec. to five minutes to load up. I have used a lot of free and payfor software to clean up the hard drive. But it still takes along time to boot up. I have used Window washer, Regclean and alot of other software. Looking for other ideas.

Try getting the latest BIOS update. I had the same problems with W2KPro and tried everything, including a friend who was a Win2K engineer.

Updated BIOS, done deal. Since then I've reformatted and it's quicker still, even with more running this time.

Now I assume that you've tried the obvious and ran ADAWARE! If not, DO. AWESOME FREE SPYWARE CLEANER!

I do not need to flash it, it has the latest bios. I read a article some where about this but of course can not find it now. It has the latest service packs and I removed almost every thing from startup and stopped services from starting that she dose not use.

Windows can take forever to boot depending of the applications it has to load at start-up. There is a substantial boot time difference between a clean windows installation and the same installation with an antivirus like McAfee and a firewall like ZoneAlarm. You can try to make windows boot up clean and see the difference.

They have a hardware firewall so that dose not effect bootup, and I tried disabling the antivirus software.
