Slow browsing of a clients own resources

by haarsaker . Updated 21 years, 1 month ago

I have gotten a problem on some of the windows clients on my network.

When they i.e open the “open file” dialogue window in i.e the Office applications and choose to activate the dropdown list at the top of the window to choose another location than the standard “My Documents” – it may take up to a few minutes before the list in the drop-down list appears. After that initial long delay, futher use of the dropdown list and browsing disk/folders is quite up to speed as long as one does not change program.
The same delay appears in Windows explorer when one tries to activate the icon “My computer” to see available disk in the tree structure in the left pane – and again, only the first time it is done after opening windows explorer.

There are no viruses/spyware on these PC’s, and the affected OS is Win2K in a Win2K-server based domain – and only a FEW of the cliens are affected.

Formating the disk and reinstalling the OS/applications solves the problem.
