Slow file save to network

By peterlwj ·
I have one XPPro system on my new SBS Windows 2003 network that takes about 10 seconds to save a small Word document to the mapped data drive. Other similar systems save in about 1 second. The only thing different I see on this system is that it is running Word 2003, whereas the other systems are running various older versions of Word. Any ideas of what to look for? I have the IP address of the server as the first entry in DNS. I have used msconfig to reduce items loaded at Startup. Not sure what else to look for. Thanks for any suggestions.

antivirus plays a huge role... Which one are you running? And are you running it both locally and on the server?

on the pc having "slow save issues" disable anti-virus... Save the doc through the network... Does it save normally or is it still slow?

I am new to this web site. I am hoping to respond to the person who answered my question. I am using the Symantec Corporate 8.1 server based antivirus with the managed client on the workstation.

You may want to try running the Office 2003 updates from the MS Office Site. I encountered this problem on an older version of office, and one of the service packs resolved it.
