Slow File Save to Samba Share from Windows XP Pro

Hello,
I am stumped. I have searched all over but can’t find an answer to this one. I have a small network with a Linux Samba File server and 3 Win XP Pro workstations. The network is gigabit. THe file server is mapped as a network drive. Opening files from the file server are fine but saving them there is roughly a 10 second delay before the files start to save. The machines seem to hang before they start to save. Any thoughts?
