I’m running Win2000 and I’ve just upgraded my hard drive to a WD 100ATA 60GB. My motherboard is a Asus K7M with 66 ATA support running 700MZ AMD processor with 394 SDRAM. I have 5 partitions of roughly 12 gb in each partition. My previous HD was a IBM 66ATA 20GB. When I log into Windows, it takes over 3 minutes for my machine to startup. With my old drive it only took a couple of seconds. Note, only Windows is on the machine right now. No other software is loaded. Likewise when I click on My Computer or when I try to launch Explorer, the computer takes forever to process (a little over a minute). Is this normal for a large hard drive? If it is, is there a way to speed it up?
