By gmelba ·
I manage a small network with 2000 Adv server. The workstations run Windows XP Prof. We experience signficant delays on login. What methods can I used to alleviate this problem?

Are you using a Domain or workgroup setup?
If a domain, check TCPIP properties on clients, make sure DNS points to AD DNS and not the ISP DNS (DNS should be configured to 'Forward' external names to the ISP DNS).

Take a look at the DNS servers settings at the workstations. It should be pointing to the Windows 2000 Advanced server or another DNS server at your domain.

Hope this can help.

How many group policies have you created, when policies are applied at logon they are not asynchronous and therefore will delay logon time? It may be worthwhile to check how my policies have been created and determine if the can be applied more efficiently.
