On my PC, I dual boot between WinME & Win2K. I almost always use Win2K. Recently, my net connection in Win2K has been really crawling. It says I still connect at 49.2k, which is about what I always have connected at, however, like I said my connection just crawls.
I have emptied out history files, temporary internet files, and reset all my security options in IE6 to default levels. I also use Norton Internet Security 2001 and I disabled that. Doing all of these things has not made a difference in speed.
Prior to this, I ran some registry cleaner that I had downloaded from somewhere, and noticed upon reboot, many things were messed up. I then undid the registry changes that were made and everything was back to normal. (I am not sure if this has anything to do with my net slowdown or not, it just happens to be about the time I started noticing a slowdown.)
I thought that maybe something was wrong on my Internet Service Providers side, but I went to the WinMe’s side of my dual boot and connected to the net and moved much quicker. I use the same settings in both operating systems. I deleted my dial-up networking connection in Win2K and created a new one, so everything was brought back to the defaults. No luck. I’m stuck.
