Hay all. Ive just set up a small test server so that i can start to learn server 2003 and 08. im running 2003 at the moment as an AD DC and file server, but i seem to be having trouble with the speed of the network. I have a 2Meg connection to the internet and before the server was installed i could get a good 230kbps download 95 per cent of the time. Will my server be having an effect on my speed.
As i said this is a very simple network with the following topology. Internet via modem, modem into Linksys WRGT54G router 2 clients and server connected to the router. Clients are configured to resolve internal network DNS from the server IP (192.168.1.101) and I have a forwarder set up on the server for internet addresses, which is my ISP’s DNS server (192.168.1.1). oh and as far as i can see all relevent ports are open in both the server, clients and router.
Please can you help, see anything wrong with my network as downloading from the internet and client to server file copy is quite slow most of the time.
