Slow network browse speed

By vanlinks ·
I have tried almost every tweak for curing Windows xp slow network broswse performance out on the net. We are in process placing Dell Inspiron, Optiplex desktops running xp pro on a NT4 network.

When I browsed on a nt4 file server thru a mapped drive, it takes 23 seconds to see files and folders on the server. The time results are pretty consistent with each fix/tweak.

Do anyone has a magic fix for this annoying xp problem?

you tried all the esoteric stuff so did you try all the easy stuff. turn off fast user switching and simple file sharing. turn off automatically detect network share. try locking nics on the optiplex's down to 10mb half duplex. try new cables. put on latest critical updates on service packs on nt and xp boxes.
does an nt workstation experience this problem?
