Slow network Logon

By drenzio2 ·
We have XP pro machines in our lab that logon to
a W2K Server very slowly...1-3 minutes after password is entered. And in the same lab we also
have Win 98 machines which are much older that
logon to the same server very quickly. What could be the problem...this is happening in 5 different schools and with 5 different servers
Why is XP so slow? We have almost no network traffic.

Try adding the servers as DNS and WINS on clients. That will speed up logging process. You do not need to erase your internet DNS from the hosts, just add the servers' IP's and set them up as the first two choices.
Hope this help

I have an identical problem to yours. A windows 2000 Server serving 12 XP Pro machines that wont work and 15 Win 98se machines that work perfectly. I know the problem is DSN and I have managed to make 2 of the 12 xp machines work perfectly but i dont know how. I haven't done anything specifically different on these 2 but i suspect it is workstation settings that we need to be looking at because I think all the settings on the server are ok.
In short, like me, you need to be looking at DSN issues.
Sorry i can't be of more help
