Slow opening large remote folders
I have a simple network running TCP/IP. A removable drive is connected to one PC. It is share accross the network. Opening folders works fine. But one folder is eight gig big.!! It takes a long time just to open the folder.
I had this problem once before and I found you can edit the registry in HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentContolSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters.
Add a new value called SizeReqBuf.
Then enter the size of the buffer.
It worked fine that time, but on this new XP Pro laptop it does not work.
Is there anything else I can do to speed up the time it takes to open the remote folder?
It opens ok on the PC it is connected to. Both PCs are running XP Pro with NTFS. This problem does not exist when accessing the folder on the Win98 PCs.
