    Locked

    by ketheridge ·

I have exchange server 5.5 and when I send a message to someone who is not in my address book it takes forever to leave the outbox. I think it is a dns issue any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

did you install the internet mail service and if so did you use a smart host or not.

if u used a smart hodst is a external host mentioned in the tcp properties

if not do you have a own dns intalled or not

There must be some configuration in the SMTP server for names resolving remotely.

Make sure you have a DNS server identified in your TCP/IP properties.

If you do, and *ALL* your mail is slow, there may be problems with other machines doing reverse DNS lookups on your box. Make sure you have reverse DNS entries in your external DNS service (whether you maintain it yourself or have an ISP do it). Either way, if remote boxes can’t do reverse lookups, you’re looking at timeouts (worst case) or extremely long sessions (which sounds like what is happening now).

      Hope that helps –
