Slow processing speed

By wsmm ·
At home I currently have a Compaq Persario with 128mb of RAM, running home addition of XP. This machine seems extremely slow. My Windows 98 machine with less memory is a speed demon compared to this unit. Any ideas on how to speed it up if at all possible? I'm considering adding 512mb of additional memory. Will that help much?

Thanks...
Bill

It may help you some. Recommended is 256mb or higher for XP. Some other things that might slow your PC down is ads or spyware. Here are some links to free scanners to help.

It wouldn't hurt to use both.

Hope this helps.

Well you did not mention what type of processor your XP machine has. Anyway, XP is much, much, much more memory intensive than Windows 9X. I recommend a minimum of 512MB of RAM for any XP machine. You will see a huge difference with 512MB of RAM. 128MB is just a recomemnded minimum by Micrososft in an obvious attempt to get you to buy XP thinking it is going to run great on 128MB.
