slow to recognize

By davidm ·
I have set up two w2k computers on a home network, connected with a hub.If you restart either one of the computers it takes a long time to be able to communicate with the other. After a long wait you can see the other computer and all is fine,There isno problem with the hardware and I'm getting no errors or services that did not start messages, I think it has something to do with the browser service but I don't know.

slow to recognize

What network components/protocols are running on both machines?

I recommend Client for MS Networks, File and Printer sharing, and TCP/IP.

When you say 'see the other computer', I'm assuming you're referring to browsing the network.

Sometimes it can take a longer time for the computer to show up there, eventhough the computer is already online.

As soon as you startup both machines, assuming all network settings are fine, go to start, run, type \\computername. It should come up right away.
