Small-Medium Antivirus Software Solutions?

By dandaman2234 ·
Hi Guys,

The company that I work for are looking to purchase an antivirus product that will protect around 150 PC's on a network. We would be looking for a centrally controlled solution for around ??1500 - ??2000.

Can anyone give me any suggestions,

In the field, I see mostly either McAfee or Symantec.

Personally, I am a big fan of Sunbelt Viper, but never tried their enterprise product.

Symantec or McAfee either one. Yes they do score high on the alleged tests some of these reviewers utilize, but I can assure you from experience they are both resource hogs that leave far too many holes in your security while multiplying far too much tightness in areas which are entirely unnecessary. In my honest opinion, the hands down best is a free one. MS Security Essentials. The only exception I make to that choice is with machines using XP. In that case I usually install Avira Antivir Personal (Free also). I believe that MSE (MS Security Essentials) is even licensed for use within business. If you are looking for an AV app for a server, MS has recently released Sophos for the Enterprise. This however, will not be free.

I will add here that I believe Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to be a near-essential application in tandem with either of the previous AV solutions. Their pricing varies depending on the number of workstations it is to be installed on. Generally, from around $15.00 up per seat. Corporate use of MBAM is a yearly subscription per seat. Unless you have your users' browsing abilities tightly locked down I would suggest using it. The cost in savings alone is worth 3 times what they ask for it. Good luck.

Edited to add a few things I left out.
