How do Smart Cards work together with the EFS (Encrypting File System) of Windows 2000?

Check out that url for a step-by-step guide on implementing Smartcards.

This card will hold your private keys used by EFS.

Hello Brian!

Thank you for your help. I now found the solution to my problems on how to just save the relevant files to a disk and that without the disk, the computer would be rendered useless since the files in the NTFS volumes would not be accessible. It is all through the use of SYSKEY, NTPASSWD, NTFSDOS and similar utilities. I think this way is even better than using a Smart Card.
