SMPT mail error

By sharath.chandra ·
I cant seem to be able to get my win 2000 machine to send emails out. I have a web server and SQL running on it. I have sharepoint server and a few other programs running which are supposed to send out emails notifying me of changes. I cannot get that to work. I have had a lot of people look at it and tell me the IP and the domain pointing to is right but its something in the server thats causing the problem and I cannot figure out what that problem is.

a better question, what client uses the smpt for email? I've heard of smtp, but not smpt.

do you have an actual email server installed, configured and running?

it's not a default service with win2k

Ok I meant SMTP :)
I have a whole bunch of PHP programs running, a virtual classroom, helpdesk, sharepoint,
The way its supposed to work is the script generates an automatic email and sends it to our gateway which is our email server and that forwards it to say the recipients( in this case the admin which is me)
The folks who handle the fateway validated the IP and the Gateway. The scripts are not broken since they are generating the email but its not being forwarded. Everything seems to collect in a badmail folder.

Install the SMTP service via Add/Remove Windows Components, IIS, SMTP Service.

Are you running any anti-virus or security software on the server which would block SMTP (port 25) messages?
For example McAfee VirusScan performs blocking on SMTP unless exceptions are configured.
