SMS 2.0 Visual C++ runtime error

By ntdoctor ·
How can I get past this error when I execute the SMS Management COnsole? I have installed Windows 2000 server, SQL 7.0 and SMS 2.0. Whenever I try to open the SMS Management Console, I get a Visual C++ Runtime Error. The memory address error follows. Event Viewer shows it as an Event ID 26. I am using the Microsoft Press training text for SMS 2.0 and following its instructions exactly. Either I am missing something in the text or the text is missing something.

SMS 2.0 Visual C++ runtime error

I am not familiar with the Training Kit and how closely it resembles the real product. Try downloading SP2 for SMS 2.0 and applying it, creating a new setup folder. You really need this anyway if you are using W2K. Uninstall SMS 2.0 and then re-install it using your new SP2 setup folder. Your error sounds like a component is missing. There should be about 5 to 7 services listed in Control Panel-Services that relate to SMS (depending what you installed). If you only see 2, a bootstrap loader andComponent Manager, you really need to look at the re-install option I noted above.
