SMS 2.0

By Todd B. ·
I am looking into adding the SMS 2.0 server to my network. I was wondering how many people out there use version 2.0 and if it's worth deploying. Thanks for any help you can give.

SMS 2.0

It depends on how large you are and how many packages/distributions you need to accomplish. SMS also has great inventorying capabilities.

If you are using SMS 1.2, you should definitely upgrade to 2.0. If you are not using either and you already have the software, then I definitely recommend using it. If you have to purchase the software, you need to look at costs vs benefits (but that will depend on the above).

SMS works and it works well in huge environments where you need to keep software up-to-date and monitor hardware/software inventories. It also works well if you have remote facilities/users who call you on the phone... needing help with software (SMS has remote control features, so you can teach someone how to do something by taking control of the computer remotely and walking them through the steps on the phone silumtaneously).
