SMS - is it secure?

By pat.thornton ·
I am looking at a product that lets SMS messages, amongst other things, run commands on my NT/2000 servers. Security comes to mind. Are SMS messages hackable in any way? You attach a SMS Box to a COM port on your server that is on the corporate LAN and receive your messages thru this device. 160 chars is the max in a SMS message.

Do I have anything to worry about?

SMS - is it secure?

by TimTheToolMan In reply to SMS - is it secure?

Hi,

I've never seen anything like that before but it seems to me that you have *everything* to worry about!

All I need to know is the phone number and I can SMS your server (and potentially hack it)!!

I'm sure the company who supplies the software would have thought of that, though. Is there at least a password built into each message?

Cheers,
Tim.

SMS - is it secure?

Tim,

Yes I thought so too but the company have not yet been able to answer my concerns. In essence I want to know is it possible to "hack" using SMS messages?
