SMTP problems with Exchange Server 5.5

By bryan ·
I'm having problems with clients who have dial-up ISP connections that cannot send via their Internet Mail Account using Outlook. They are able to connect and download via POP3, but they cannot send via SMTP. Is there a logical explantion to this?We have stopped relaying on our server and we require authentication. I'm able to connect just fine to the Internet Mail Account. It seems to be the problem of Dial-up connections.

If your disabled relaying might contribute to this...relaying allows clients to route e-mail through the exchange server....now for the client machines you might want the to check to outgoing SMTP security requirments..make sure they have outgoing must logon and have them use the same credentials as they use for checking there e-mail.

I hope this helps..

Hi,

I have seen it many times. Your ISP doesn't allow mail relaying. Everything is fine when your client dial out to their ISP and use their ISPs POP3 and SMTP servers.
The solution is simple. Whenever your clients use your ISP to send e-mail they have to reconfigure thir Outlook settings. Just instruct them to reconfigure their SMTP server field and use your ISP'S server.
