Currently use Sophos mail monitor for Exchange servers. Finding that the intrusive scanning nature of mail monitor is causing many of our Exhange servers to have major issues and have decided to source an alternative.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a piece of software I could load onto a seperate PC that I can forward all port 25 traffic to (i.e. the SMTP mail feed), scan all the mail and then pass this onto the exhange mail server? I am sure this form of scanning would make a lot more sense as it would reside on a totally seperate pc and therefore not touch Exchange.
Some sort of free Linux software or the like would be ideal.

Use any Viruswall like Trend Micro , macfee, symantec for SMTP etc.. If you don't have Anit-Spam Think of that too Ther are products which can do both.
Like Trend Micro, ISS proventia Mail filter etc...
