I have server 2003 OS and I have worked(learning is the proper wording here) with this server for about six month now so i am just now starting to come to grips with it.
I am ordering new servers next week(the ones i have now or just ad hoc for learning – the ones i am ordering will be production) and i will install a fresh copy of server 2003 and install the DNS server as well.
Here is where i am having trouble:
Scenario:
I have one domain name reg at godaddy.com and it is set up as a (NS). I have this domain name set up as a (NS). On my DNS server i have about one hundred domain names that all have a (NS) of the one that is configured at godday; all of these domains are reg at godaddy.com as well.
I have noticed over the last six months that all of the domain names are resolved with no porblem; however, there has been to ongoing issues that have always been their since day one and still their now, and i would like to resolve these issues before i install a fresh copy on my new production servers.
Problem One:
In my dns logs there is an ongoing error that say,” The zone bla.biz is configured to accept updates but the A record for the primary server in the zones SOA record is not available on this DNS server. This may indicate a configuration problem. If the address of the primary server for the zone cannot be resolved DNS clients will be unable to locate a server to locate server to accept updates for this zone. This will cause DNS clients to be unable to perform DNS Updates.”
Problem TWO:
I am noticing that my DNS server has started to act like it is not available, shut down, or locked up or something(straight up NOT responding)**What is funny is that it seems to not even be forwarding to the secondary DNS lookup, which i have set as my ISP.
Any suggestion, or comments is great.
