Socket is missing

By dwightp ·
Good afternoon:

When attempting to connect to the Internet on a Windows XP home machine, it tells me that it can't find the Windows Socket. Is there a way to repair and/or replace the Sockets.

Thanks everyone!

Dwight

heres a KB article on socket errors in Windows. Probably doesn't answer your question but I'll give you an idea of whats happening to cause the error.

Sound like it's probably a Winock problem. I would try the following.

I concur with scsiman2000, I would just jump down to the section:
'How to Recover from Winsock2 corruption' and do that, doesn't take more than five minutes and a re-boot. I have done it on several XP Pro computers that could not get an IP number anymore form the DNS server and were reporting whatever the IP number was assigned to the NC and it could not be renewd trhough ipconfig.
.
