We are in the process of selecting a vendor to supply our worldwide organization with PCs and laptops. We know the advantage of leveraging our size for the purchase cost, but we need to be able to quantify the benefits of standardizing on a single manufacturer’s equipment (we know models & features change frequently, but the overall model line is pretty static).
What metrics can be used to quantify the costs of saying that a particular model(s) will be purchased corporate-wide? Training, support, installation, repair? How do you put numbers on these?

Also, if you did standardize on a vendor, how did you choose the vendor? How many did you look at? Why did you choose this one and why did you reject the others? Is it a GLOBAL agreement?
