Software Application Implementation.

In the project life cycle of a software development, what should be INPUT parameters to - Integration test?, Volume test?, Stress test?, Security test?, Performance test?, Data conversion?.

In general practice, what are the roles and responsibilities of the VENDOR and the CUSTOMER for each of the above?

In general, the input parameters for "intergration test" should be the old test cases (with which you've tested the modules independently) and test cases that test the "interface" and test cases to test new functionality, if any exists after integration.

For Volume test, the input parameters are vary depending on the application. Let's say if you are developing an application that uses databases, then probably the input parameters are the "number of records" the application can handle. Keep increase the no. of records. let's say if you are writing an application, that has a parser and some functionality based on results of the parser, then you can probably keep increase the no. of lines in the script that needs to be parsed and etc.,In general stress testing should be done when the application has a defined stress like it demands more resources at a particular point of time and etc.,

Security and Performance testing can be done when the application needs to check the security/authentication of the users! In this case, the test cases mostly of the type to break the security of the system (like finding ways to illegally pentrate into the application/system. e.g., like keep entering wrong password for several times if system accepts and gives you a message that "password/userid is incorrect" and things like that). You can ask some VENDOR representatives to do the security test!?

Performance testing can be done against some "bench marks" if any exists/set already. Otherwise, you need to set these by contacting the VENDOR and test the performance of the application against those "bench marks".

Hope all the above info. helps to you and hope you must've understood the roles and responsibilities of VENDOR andCUSTOMER at the different phases.

Good Luck!

OH! I forgot about data conversion. This can be done by writing a script/routine to do. But to test this, take the new data formats/types from CUSTOMER OR ask the CUSTOMER to validate the output/results of the "data conversion" routine the application had. The best way is to ask the CUSTOMER to validate the output of the "data conversion" routines.

In above all, I assumed that VENDOR is the person(s) developing/testing the application and CUSTOMER is the to whom the VENDOR is developing the s/w!
