Software Coolers

By BorgInva ·
Are there any software coolers that can be used for XP?
I used ot use some like Rain for 98, but none work for XP. What these programs sued to do was send signals to something on the motherboard that would shutdown certain circuits or whatnot that were not being used and it would help keep the board from using any extra energy. Know what I mean?
If so, are there any out there you know of?

Software Coolers

I did some research, it's not that the cooler programs do not work with XP.

The cooler programs all function by sending the HALT command to the CPU when it is idle.
This function is allready part of the W2K / XP operating system. So, there is nothing more that the cooler programs can do for an XP system.

Further, there are concerns posted that the cooler programs have less, or no impact on the newer (Athlon, P4) CPUs.

Even at idle, the Athlon and Duron CPUs run much hotter than the K6 and PIII CPUs.

If you are looking for better, or quieter cooling, take a look at the copper finned heatsinks with external fans at places like www.cyberguys.com
