Software Environment \??\ Drivers

By kcav ·
I am running Windows 2000 v5.0 SP 4

I clicked on Admin Tools | Computer Management | System Information | Software Environment | Drivers, and found 6 files that begin with \??\path\filename. I recognize these names belong to a system-monitoring tool that is no longer on the system. I searched my hard disk drives for them, and did not find any of these files. Next, I performed a search of Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE. The search found nothing.

Where did the Software Environment facility get its information?

Check Control Panel, System, Advanced, Environment Variables. Also maybe look at HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet.

Looked in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet - did see one item, the rest are probly there. I did not change because my comfort level with regards to editing the Registry needs to be a little higher. I will go back latter. I think there is obsolete debrie in this part of the Registry.
