What methods do you employ to maintain licensing compliance in your department?
Are there designated security accounts with install privileges, do you file a copy of every single proof a purchase, perform regular internal audits, routinely run startup tools, higher expensive outside consulting firms and allocate budget dollars soley for maintaining comliance?
When it comes down to it do agencies like the BSA and the software manufacturers leave Burdon of proof up the owner of the machine? How does that compare to other copyrighted media, for instance do we assume a book lying around on a coffee table has been stolen if it doesn?t have the address sticker on it, what about a computer without an OEM number?
I?m not debating billions of dollars are lost on piracy, but how much is gained by these organizations from companies doubling up on legitimately purchased license payments through paranoia , mismanagement of files and mergers?
