Software push.

By snide3 ·
Anyone have any suggestions on great software to push installations of many different types of software within my network? I have over 150 clients and it is a pain to install new software. I have to go to every machine to install. It must be ableto push all softare available or very very little limitations. Thanks.

It depends on what NOS server you have. If it is Microsoft go for SMS, if you have Novell Zenworks.

Try using command line switches

Lots of setup programs allow you to add 'switches' that will allow installations of their software. One way to find out, is to run the setup program (usually SETUP.EXE) with the /? (ex: SETUP /?) If available, you will see a list of command line switches (ex: /S = silent, /Q = Quiet, etc.) that will allow you to configure your installation to run without any need to click or enter.

If this is available for the program you want to install, then simply add the command to the user's login script.

Aside from that, I've used VB to accomplish the task for programs that don't have switches, but each program is unique.
