By Snuffy09 ·
I want to setup a RAID in windows XP PRO, RAID 1

If i do this and my windows OS becomes corrupt can i still slave one of the drives to pull pics and music files from it?

Maybe...

Windows XP Pro does not support software RAID-1 out of the box... --> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314343

There may be a company that does make a solution to accomplish this. Do some searching on your favorite search engine.

you will have to get 3rd party programs... I would say go out and find a PCI or PCI-E RAID controller, build the RAID 1 on both drives, hit F6 to load the RAID drivers so the OS can see the drive, and load the OS... Then you have a true RAID 1... Software RAID's kind of make me cringe, I just don't trust them...

I have no reason for disliking software RAID's, I just feel more comfortable knowing there is dedicated hardware controlling it.
