Software Vendors Hardware requirements

if ill be buying a 5 PC workstations for a CGI business.. will i follow Software Vendor's specifications... just like 3D Studio Max 4.. has its own recommended specs.. or will i move it a notch higher??

Talk to software vendor. They usually have "minimum" and "recommended" hardware requirements. Find out what both of them are.

Then, ask them what other customers are using for hardware.

Lastly, ask for a couple of client references. Theseare people that you could call to discuss their hardware.

It depends on your budget.
If you can, move it up a notch or 4 higher.
Especially for applications like 3dStudio, Lightwave, etc. Add more RAM for sure, and if capable, use the fastest processor available. Disk space is pretty moot at this point, but for compilation aim for the fastest SCSI you can afford.
