Solution To No Sound On Dell Systems

by richard89 . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

I recently had a problem with the sound on my Dell system. I started it
up one day and found a red X next to the speaker icon. After several
fruitless hours on the phone with Dell’s worthless techs I decided that
I’d check the forums to see if anyone else was having the same
trouble as I was. I was stunned to find that ALL of the posts relating to
this topic were for Dell systems. Needless to say I won’t be buying Dell
ever again. I finally found someone who said that they had resolved
the problem through Microsoft’s tech support. The Microsoft tech
figured out that the problem is easily fixed by a quick trip to the
Registry Editor. This is the path you need to follow in Registry Editor:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Audiosrv
In this folder you will see: DependOnService
Double click this and delete all the entries EXCEPT for: RpcSs

Now restart your system and your sound should be good as new.
