Some keyboard keys will not function

By reeswjason ·
I have a panasonic cf-51 laptop that i'm working on and it seems that some keys will not function. Also when I connect a external keyboard it seems to behave the same way. I have also replaced the keyboard with no luck. So where I am now is I have a laptop that will boot to the logon screen but ctrl-alt-del will not work. I also can't access the bios because it's password protected and the keyboard will not accept the number keys.

Try a Live Linux to boot off

when the OS opens open a WP and hit each and every Key on the Keyboard. Check again with an External Keyboard and if there are letters no working it is a IO Interface failure and the M'Board needs replacing.

I have had to replace several NB's because of this over the years. Seems that they get Hot and degrade the components till things just stop working.

Forgot if you don't already have a Live Linux take your pick from here

Personally I use Knoppix it is more functional for working on Windows Systems.
