Some laptop keys do not work

By nardrake ·
For the past few months I have noticed that a few of the keys on my HP Pavilion N5195 laptop do not work when I am typing. It seems intermittent, in that sometimes one may not work and at other times it works and a completely different one will notwork. I attached an external USB keyboard and have no problems at all so I'm assuming it is a problem with the laptop's keyboard. Is there any other test I can do to pinpoint the cause of this problem

Just a thought, I have had some problems with laptop keyboards, other than t h obvious that the keyboard is failing, sometimes, crud falls onto the keyboard and gets inside preventing keystrokes from registering. when the problem occurs, you might try prying off the key(s) that do not work and see if you can observe anything that prevents the key from being depressed. You can also try compressed air. Hope this helps.

I faced this recently on my wife's laptop. The first attempt to fix - lifting it out and blowing any debris away with compressed air didn't work. The solution was to replace the keyboard itself. I contacted the manufacturer (Compaq - Digital) and purchased it as a "spare". I was very pleased that it only cost around $30. The actual process of changing it was a little tricky (getting the little ribbon cable in there securely) but after a few minutes it was back up and running perfectly.

Good luck...hope this helps.

sorry to say that it sounds like you need a keyboard replacement. i would suggest calling HP's tech support - if you're under warranty and depending on what it covers, they may come on-site to replace it at no charge.
