Sonicwall Pro 200 - Still reliable?

By UVAJD2B ·
I have always been curious about the Sonicwall lineup, but never had the free cash to purchase one worthy of a small business. Recently, I found a Pro 200 at a resale shop for $8 so I bought it. I took it home, fired it up, logged in, no issues. My question is, what sort of protection can this old model provide given it's age. I know I can't purchase the add on services, but as a front line / edge firewall, has much changed that would make this device a security risk or perform worse than a $90 Linksys Router?

they block all inbound ports except those you specify. They block ICMP traffic, multicast traffic.

The bells and Whistles are another thing. Stateful packet inspecition might not be available or the signature files out of date, blah blah...

Personally I don't like the SonicWall brand because they charge you a yearly fee for all those bells and whistles and that fee can be stiff.
