Normally the way that you transfer data off one of these disc’s is from the camera that it was taken in through a USB lead and store it on your HDD.

The Sony format is different to anything that the computer can read as they employ different encryption of compression programs.

I’m not aware of any free software that is capable of transferring this recording from the mini disc to the computer. Although the drivers that came with the Sony Camera may be capable of doing this.

If you have a video card with AV outputs hook the minidisk player up to that. then find something like this http://www.nvidia.com/object/feature_pc_tv.html

You should look for a player (software application) that plays mini disc’s on your comp, It is not a DVD so DVD apps won’t play it.

        Hi,
I have a similar problem you have said. I put my brothers wedding sony minidisc into the dvd player and it gave a message saying that it was validating and setting up. Then we had an error message saying the disc wasnt finalised. I put it back in the videocamera and tried to finalise it but now it wont play back even in the sony videcam. Please can you advise what I can do to restore the minidisc or get the video off the minidisc. I think the data is still there because when i check the properties it says the disc is full. I checked in my laptop as well and the disc is full but nothing shows up to be played.

        Please help.

        Thanks,
        Zeena
