Sony Support I need auth sony rep center

By Casemaker ·
I have the Sony VAIO Desktop PCV-RZ30CG .The client had XP SP2 automatically install on the pc. After it would not boot. I tried recovery fro the hidden partition but it would not work.I ordered new disks from Sony and they would not work, ordered another set would not work. Said disc not compatible with machine check model. Did that am sure these are the disks. Sony support said to flash the BIOS and it had to be done in Windows. I formated the drive installed XP home and flashed. Still can't use the disks. Drained Bios, swapped memory, still no go.

I am a computer repair center and need someone that is affiliated with a Sony authorized service center to help me. Sony said that it would need to be sent out. I can't understand what a service center will do that I can't do.

"I can't understand what a service center will do that I can't do. " Service centers don't spend too much time troubleshooting software and will pretty much start changing out parts. In this case they would run an image on the drive and see if it works properly, if not the harddrive would be switched out. If that doesnt work and all cables and connections are checked they will switch out the motherboard. Did you repartition the drive before formatting it? I have seen that to fix some issues before. Have you tried swapping out the drive with a new one and doing a fresh install? If you have tried those things already then my next choice would be that the motherboard was already faulty and giving you more problems now. Hopefully its still under warranty. They dont want to be sending the customer alot of parts to switch out in a "try this one" scenario. Instead they would rather handle it once, do whatever changes it needs and hand it back to the customer in a proper working condition.

I repeat;

Saw this 3 times, once CDR/W was bad, second time DVD was bad, third time it was the HD (solid light on device is indication it the bad one). Go into bios and see what is not being detected, that is probably the offending device so unplug it may need a bootable floppy/CD if it is the HD. Can always attempt to recover data off the HD if it is inserted as a slave to an operational HD.

Can also unplug all but HD and see if it boots, if not use bootable floppy as only component if it boots could be HD.

Turned out the offender was bombarding the buss with garbage, causing CPU to not find a boot device or any of the other components.

Good Luck !

I believe that Sony will replace the unit if it cannot be repaired and it is under warranty. While you are indeed a service center, Sony would have attempted to have the computer back to the customer within seven business days. Waiting all this time for system disks that won't work on that unit is doing a disservice to the customer and reflecting poorly on Sony. Sony asked that it be shipped back to them for the repair work. I am not saying that you aren't a good and qualified technician, but perhaps this is an issue where the manufacturer's direction should have been taken for the sake of the customer.
