    Sony trojan problem

    Locked

    by tabcomputers2002 ·

I played a CD on my computer that contained the Sony Copyright protection. Now I can’t get it off my system. Pest Patrol was the only one to pick it up. When i let the system clean, I was told to reboot and run again. When I rebooted, I Blue Screened. I was able to restore to a previous point, but of course the extra bagage came back.

    Any ideas??
    Thanks
    Tim

Try running Pest Patrol from Safe Mode. If it finds anything, delete (not quarantine).

      If you navigate to http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2005/11/sony-you-dont-reeeeaaaally-want-to_09.html
you can read how someone else uninstalled the software. I can’t vouch for its accuracy, since Sony seems to keep hiding the uninstaller.

Not an option… There are at least 3 computers in the company that are infected. The good news is that our Firewall isn’t letting anything out

You don’t need computer help. You need to hire an attorney.

You’re right, it doesn’t help clean the computer. Get off your butt and answer Sony’s questionaire and get the instructions to clean up your machine. I think that what happened to you sucks, but if you want to fix it, you may have to kiss a little ass.

In case you haven’t read about Sonys “cleaning” of their problem, it makes the system MORE unstable. Sure I can get into the class action, but it STILL leaves the problem on my system.

I want a REMOVAL not advice to sue people. Sure I would get a clean CD and Money, but until there is a PROPER solution, what good is it?

If you can’t offer the help asked for, be quite.

We went the way of answering the questionaire and receiving the instructions on how to remove. Yes, there were a couple of issues which were fixed when we ran an inplace repair of Windows XP. It may not be the answer you want, but its all that there is…….

I know you are frustrated with the problem but being rude to those making suggestions, still won’t get you what you want!

      Good luck!

We were able to partly clean one machine, but a few problems remain.

My appologies to those who tried to give advice. I understand why Sony added thier “copy protection” to the discs. I’m not interested in legal action against them, I just want a clean machine.

        Thanks

Make sure you are running the newest version and updates of MS AntiSpyware. It found and removed it on my computer and I am not seeing any ill effects. Also, make sure you are doing a FULL SYSTEM scan, let it check every nook and cranny.

I just updated my M$ Antispyware, it found 1 file and a bunch of regestry entries. I created a restore point just in case, then let it clean. After I rebooted, I ran Pestpatrol, and all those same files were back. M$ didn’t report them as still being there. I’m down to just 6 entries.

        Thanks
