    Sony Vaio – disabling trackpad

    by sm_gupta01 ·

    Dear Support Republic,

I have an old Vaio PCG270 laptop but have installed Windows XP on it. The sony utilities to control the trackpad do not work with Win XP.

Please could you tell me how to disable the trackpad whenever a mouse is plugged into the computer (I use a serial mouse since the single USB port is used for my broadband connection)?

Also, if the mouse is plugged in on boot-up, then the mouse cursor goes haywire and moves all over the place opening various items by itself. The only way this doesn’t happen is if the mouse is plugged in once windows has already started but then the wheel on the mouse doesn’t work. Is there anyway to correct this and to get the wheel working?

Thanking you in advance for your help.

the trackpad is probably set to work on com1 and is conflicting with the serial mouse’s interrupt. Enter BIOS setup at boot. Look for references to the trackpad in the integrated peripherals section. see if you can move it off com1 or whatever port it is on. or try disabling onboard serial port com1. you can’t use a ps2 mouse?
