Sony viao laptop

By zlitocook ·
This the first time working on one. I have had to backup and use the restore CD, because of trojan and virus on the computer. My problem is that the restore cd stops at a point and will not compleat. It is a PCG-GRX-560, it had XP home on it. And the person who used it was in collage, with antivirus but did not know how to use it. I got the laptop ran clean disk, defrag and scan disk. But the computer still ran slow and would not record a cd. So I backed up the needed files to an external hard drive and started the restore.
I put in the restore cd #1 and it got to formating the drive 31% and gave an error, unknown error and press anykey to exit. After that when I boot to the restore cd it ether gives a error no operating system or a dump screen. It has no floppy drive so I can not use any disk, and it will not boot to a USB device. I talked with a support person who was out sourced, he did not understand what I wanted to do. I removed the ac adapter and let the laptop run down and tried it a second time, it will go to the restore screen but I get the same results.

I did try booting to a cd other than the VIAO cd, I have Bartpe and some other bootable cd's. But when I try them all I get is missing O/S. I have gone into the bios and reset defaults. I have done every thing from the Sony web site and from searching google. The restore cd is ok I checked it on the sony website, the hard drive looks ok it was used befor I got it. So I need a way to check the laptop and hard drive with out a O/S loading.

Short answer, I need to get out of here.

Try booting a Win XP Home CD (OEM) and install from there. Product key is on bottom of notebook and should work with most any XP Home OEM CD.

VAIO drivers are available on Sony website. Download on another PC, burn to CD and install.

I had to install a new HDD on a VAIO recently and owner did not have restore CDs. Got it back to good working order using method described.

It was a malfunctioning CDROM! It would read and install programs sometimes but after installing XP pro. I have a bunch of them (I am a certified reseller). It installed fine but trying to add drivers from the CD'S that came with the laptop is a real task. I am adding the modem driver and it is taking over 15 minutes! It seems the more you use the CDROM the slower it works or will not work.
