My wifes compaq has XP and sounds all work fine, play CD's, Windows media player sound OK, But will not play any sound when on MS Exp 6.0. Sounds in Web pages or Outlook messages will not play.

In IE, go to: Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab. Scroll down to Multimedia section and ensure that Play Sounds in Web Pages is checked. IE settings and OE settings are shared.
Sounds like ie got mucked up. Try a repair. Go to %windowsdirectory%\inf and look for ie.inf. Right-click on it and select install. When the process is finished reboot and try ie again.
If it was a standard install of XP (not an upgrade) the windows directory will be c:\windows. Look for the directory c:\windows\inf. In that directory look for the file ie.inf (there will be many inf files in that directory).
Thank you.But it is a Standard Install from a full, not upgrade, disk. Looked in C:\windows for c:\windows\inf and found it as a hidden file. Opened it for search but could not locate any file ie.inf..
You will need to show all hidden files. Follow these directions:
* Click Start. * Open My Computer. * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. * Select the View Tab. * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders. * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option. * Click Yes to confirm. * Click OK.
